A man has been attacked by three teenage boys who were trying to steal his phone.

The 29-year-old was on Shettleston Road in Glasgow, near to the Duke Street junction, at around 11.40pm on Tuesday when he was approached by the group.

They tried to take his mobile phone and when he resisted they assaulted him.

He was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and received treatment for a facial injury. He was later released.

Detective Constable Stewart Menzies said: "Whilst we believe we have seen the three youths on CCTV, the quality is such that they are unidentifiable.

"I am therefore appealing to members of the public for their assistance and I am asking those who were in the areas noted to think back and consider if they saw anything which may assist our inquiries.

"If anyone has any information or knowledge of the suspects or the crime, please call us.''

The suspects are white, aged between 15 and 17, with slim builds and they were all wearing dark clothing.

Officers believe they have seen the suspects on CCTV footage heading up Duke Street, passing through the Forge car parks, towards the Gallowgate.

It is thought they passed through the Eastern Necropolis and made their way to London Road heading towards the Athletes' Village.

Anyone with information about the attack is urged to call CID officers at Shettleston Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 4918 of June 26, or to get in contact anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
