Kayden Moy killer to appeal prison sentence

One of the teenagers jailed for the murder of Kayden Moy on Irvine beach is appealing his 16 year sentence.

Eighteen year old Cole Turley stabbed the East Kilbride teenager on May 17 last year, and pleaded guilty before his co accused Jay Stewart, and a 15 year old who can't be named, went on trial.

Jay Stewart, 19, was also sentenced to 16 years in prison, while the 15 year old was detained for at least 14 years.

The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service confirmed that Turley had lodged an appeal on Tuesday.

In a statement on social media, Kayden's family said they are 'devasted and exhausted', adding the 16 year sentence did not feel like justice in the first place.

The full statement from Kayden's father, Paul Moy, reads:

"This morning we received an email telling us that our son's murderer, Cole Turley, has lodged an appeal against the 16 year sentence

It's hard to put into words how devastated and exhausted we feel. Just when we try to find some way to carry on, we're dragged straight back into the nightmare. There never seems to be any peace or chance to heal.

We will never understand how someone who took our son's life can now ask for another chance. Sixteen years never felt like justice to us in the first place, and now we're faced with the possibility of having to relive everything all over again.

Our son was robbed of his future, and we were robbed of a lifetime with him. That sentence can never compare to the life that was taken or the pain our family lives with every single day.

Today our hearts are broken all over again. We ask for your continued support and for everyone to keep our family in your thoughts as we face yet another painful chapter.

Justice should never forget the victims left behind."

Meanwhile, last week Stewart posted a video online from jail in which he appears to boast about stabbing Kayden.

The video, filmed in a cell in HMP Polmont and posted on Snapchat, shows Stewart topless, masked and rapping about the killing - claiming he will act violently again once he is released.

Police Scotland are reportedly investigating.
