Plans to bring back the Renfrew ferry are already gaining momentum less than 72 hours hours after the bridge was closed by the council.

Damage from Storm Boelo means it's going to be shut while the council repairs one of the operating plant rooms.

Now a team of unnamed people are considering bringing the old vessel back and making it a tourist attraction after a Facebook post gained traction.

One of the project leads told Clyde 1: "It has a huge amount of heritage and means a lot to people in Renfrew.

"We are going to get a feasibility study done and we would like to make it more of a tourist attraction this time around.

"Something that explains the Clyde to people who step on it and what the ferry means to the people on this side of Glasgow."

It's one of the oldest ferry crossings in Scotland and the group behind these proposals wants to see the service continue even when the bridge is operational again.

They added: "We wouldn't just run the service between Renfrew and Yoker, we would stop at a number of spots down the river and point out a number of areas of interest.

"I am planning to put myself through nautical school and get my license to pilot the vessel - the boat means a lot to me. I used to get it over to Clydebank to visit the cinema."
