Police have seized a cannabis cultivation worth about £120,000 from a building near a marina in Greenock.

Officers searched premises on Mackenzie Street in Greenock after receiving a report of a possible cannabis cultivation there at about 11.50am on Tuesday.

The found an "extensive" cultivation of about 200 plants.

Police said that investigations are continuing to trace those responsible and appealed for information about the discovery near the James Watt Dock Marina in the Inverclyde town.

Sergeant Gary Arthur said: "This is a significant recovery and is an example of our efforts to disrupt the trade in illegal drugs in Scotland.

"Drugs cause misery in our communities and the public has an important role to play in helping Police Scotland target those responsible for the cultivation, supply and sale of illegal substances.

"Our inquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing for anyone with any information to contact us."
