Glasgow tower blocks to be pulled down at lunchtime
They're being taken away for new social housing.
Two high rise blocks of flats in the southside of Glasgow are set to be pulled down at lunchtime.
The towers between 305 to 341 on Caledonia Road are owned by New Gorbals Housing Association which is bringing them down and will replace them with new social hosuing.
Glasgow Labour MSP Paul Sweeney told Clyde 1: "The Gorbals has certainly seen its fair share of disruption over the last 70 years.
"Tenemental buildings were pulled down and replaced by large system-built tower blocks."
Many of the remaining tower blocks across Glasgow were reclad after the Grenfell disaster back in 2017.
However, they're expensive to maintain.
Paul added: "I have admiration for the scale of Glasgow's ambition to build all this housing in the 1960s and 1970s but it was a somewhat misguided decision.
"They were often built very cheaply without any amenities around them or ensuring they were of good quality.
"These blocks were refurbished but are ultimately reaching the end of their life and have to come down."
