The ex-partner of a Dumfries woman found dead on the shores of Crete 16 years ago is set to go on trial next year.

Jean Hanlon's loved ones have won an appeal against a decision not to prosecute him earlier this year.

She was found on the shores near the town of Heraklion in 2009.

He son Michael told Clyde 1: "I would have found it really hard to believe if the authorities hadn't accepted our appeal.

"There is so much evidence against this man that it would've been crazy and criminal to reject it."

Michael Porter has fought tirelessly for answers about what happened to his mum.

Michael had been forced to hire a private investigator to gather evidence against this man after years of searching for answers about what happened to his mum.

The trial is set to begin within the next 6-8 months.

Michael added: "It's not known for the magistrates or judges to overrule a senior prosecutor's proposal, but they've looked at everything we supplied once again and come to this conclusion.

"The best outcome now would be for him to crack and give us that final closure and justice for our mum."
