Erskine Bridge to remain closed causing traffic chaos
Staff carrying out the work say heavy rainfall has contributed its delay in re-opening.
The Erskine Bridge remains closed this morning leaving traffic on surrounding roads moving very slowly.
It's shut Northbound for essential works and Traffic Scotland says there's no estimated time for the road to reopen.
The closure appears to be affecting commuters going to work with some saying they were late yesterday and today.
Amey is carrying out the maintenance on the bridge on behalf of Transport Scotland.
Technical Director, Craig Steel, said: "It was closed at 8pm on Friday to undertake essential refurbishment work.
"The work being done totalled around 400 square metres.
"We want to ensure ride quality for the bridge but also to protect the structure.
"Unfortunately, the existing surfacing and waterproofing has proven more difficult to remove than we expected.
"That combined with heavy rainfall delayed the start of the reinstatement works."
