E-bike rider hospitalised and two injured after crash in Renfrew

An electric motorbike rider is in a critical condition in hospital following a collision involving four pedestrians.

Two of the pedestrians, both 69-year-old women, were taken to hospital with serious injuries after the crash on Inchinnan Road in Renfrew at around 2.25pm on Tuesday.

The other two pedestrians, two children aged 10 and 11, were not injured.

Police said the male rider of the motorbike was taken to hospital where staff describe his condition as critical.

Officers are appealing for information about the incident, which involved a Sur-Ron electric motorbike.

Police said it was removed from the scene before officers arrived and was later traced.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and investigations are continuing.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham said: “Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed it and hasn’t already spoken to police to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us.”

The road was closed for investigations following the crash and reopened at around 5.30pm on Tuesday.
