A driver who sped away from police officers when told to stop and crashed causing injury to his passenger has been arrested.

The 27-year-old man, who was behind the wheel of a Peugeot 3008, was ordered to pull over on Glasgow’s Kyle Street just before mid-day yesterday but failed to do so.

Just minutes later the car collided with a Mercedes A180 on nearby Milton Street as officers chased after it.

Emergency services were called and the driver was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment. He was released and then arrested in connection with road traffic offences.

The 25-year-old male passenger of the Peugeot was also taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the Mercedes was uninjured.

Milton Street was closed for around 10 hours while investigations were carried out.

Sergeant Nick Twigg of Glasgow Road Policing said: "Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who may have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us.”
