Springburn residents evacuated after bomb disposal squad deployed

Emergency services are responding to reports of a 'suspect' device found in a block of flats

Residents in Springburn are being evacuated from their homes after a bomb disposal unit was dispatched to the area.

Emergency services were called to a block of flats on Petershill Road just after 10 AM this morning.

Officers were told of a suspicious device within the flats.

A 50 year old man has been arrested in connection, however, surrounding roads are closed to drivers while Police carry out their investigation.

People are being asked to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ā€œPolice and emergency services are currently in attendance at an incident in Petershill Road, Springburn, Glasgow.

ā€œOfficers were called around 10.05am this morning, Monday, April 17 2023, to a report of a suspect device within a flat in the street.

ā€œThe EOD – Explosive Ordnance Disposal – is in attendance.

ā€œAs a precaution, a number of flats have been evacuated and some road closures have been implemented.

ā€œPeople are advised at this time to heed local diversions or seek alternative routes.ā€
