Appeal against decision to list historic Glasgow cinema rejected
There were plans to turn it into a car showroom with flats above.
The country's most senior judge is rejecting an appeal against a decision by Historic Environment Scotland to list the old Vogue cinema in the East end of Glasgow.
Its owners at Allied Vehicle Group want to pull it down and turn it into a car showroom with flats above but don't have planning permission.
A petition to save the building's facade was started by campaigner Andrew Moore last year.
He told Clyde 1: "It has so much importance and value to the community of Possil.
"Everyone's mums, dads, grans and grandads have memories of going there and it's based at a four-road junction within the area so people are always passing through it.
"Even Kenny Daglish, the footballer, used to go there."
The decision to reject the appeal by Allied Vehicles Group was taken by the Lord President - Lord Pentland.
Andrew added: "I find it hard to understand why the owners aren't proud of the building's heritage and why they wouldn't want to incorporate that into their plans.
"It was designed by James McKissack and one of his other buildings in Hamilton was demolished in January.
"We can't afford to lose another."
We've asked Allied Vehicles Group for comment.
