Teenager pleads guilty to running over man in Kilmarnock
Anthony Hornell struck Christopher Brennan last September.
A 19-year-old man has pleaded guilty to deliberately running over another man in Kilmarnock last year.
Anthony Hornell, 19, struck Christopher Barrowman, 32, with a car on September 28 2025.
Hornell told his passengers "watch this boys, he is getting rammed" before propelling Mr Barrowman onto his windscreen.
He later stated to another man: "Ha ha we've just hit some c***."
Hornell pleaded guilty today at the High Court in Glasgow to attempted murder.
The court heard that Mr Barrowman had spent the day in Glasgow celebrating with friends.
He later went to a takeaway in Kilmarnock and started to walk home.
Meantime, Hornell was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa with three youths as passengers.
Hornell drove past Mr Barrowman when he and one of his passengers shouted something from the car window.
Mr Barrowman jogged after the car and went into the middle of the road.
Hornell turned the vehicle in the direction of Mr Barrowman and stated: "Right, watch this boys, he is getting rammed."
Prosecutor Lynsey Rodger said: "Hornell drove straight at Mr Barrowman who by that time was standing on the middle of the road holding his arms out.
"Hornell accelerated towards him and hit him head on.
"Mr Barrowman rolled up onto the bonnet, struck the windscreen and rolled off the car onto the road."
The victim hit the ground which caused his headphones and glasses to come off.
He immediately stood up but he was dazed and bleeding from his hand.
Mr Barrowman, believing that he was concussed, leaned against a lamppost and dialled 999.
Officers and medics attended. Mr Barrowman was taken to hospital after he complained of pain to his head and left shoulder.
A CT scan ruled any serious injury out and he was discharged from hospital hours later.
Meantime, Hornell drove away from the incident and picked up 18-year-old friend Kevin Wilson.
On seeing the Corsa damaged Mr Wilson asked what happened.
Hornell replied that he hit someone and had driven away.
When Wilson expressed concern about the police looking for the car, Hornell said: "Aw f*** them."
Miss Rodger added: "Hornell then bragged about the incident, saying things such as 'ha ha we've just hit some c***'."
Hornell abandoned the vehicle which was repeatedly reported to the police who connected it to the earlier incident.
Officers found Hornell and the youths near the vehicle and he was arrested.
Sean Templeton, defending, told the court: "He very much regrets his behaviour that night and the actions he took.
"He wishes to convey his apologies to the victim in court.
"He knows there was potential for much more serious injuries than what occurred."
Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Judge Lord Arthurson who continued Hornell's remand in custody meantime.
The judge told him: "Custody is inevitable."
