A day of wild weather brought on by Storm Éowyn appears to be coming to an end as winds begin to die down.

Many people remain without power across Ayrshire after the 'once in a generation' weather event wreaked havoc.

People on MIllport have been told by SSE they won't have power back until 5pm on Monday.

Damage has been reported across the community, with trees falling and debris flying, with roads being closed and property bearing the brunt.

Kilmarnock's big top circus collapsed after suffering catastrophic wind damage. The blue tent event space had been hosting music gigs throughout January.

On Arran, local Mark Bunyan told us the island had had a really tough day.

He said: "The island is just devastated. It'll be a massive clean up job.

"The Auchrannie Hotel, they've had a big hit today, they've had a lot of trees down.

"They've actually had one go through the roof of a lodge."

The sea wall at Whitefarland on Arran also came down.

Elsewhere, early on Friday, Network Rail reported trees on overhead lines and a wall down at Kilwinning Train Station.

Around mid-afternoon, North Ayrshire Council had to warn people against driving to the coast to take pictures and selfies close to the waves.

They also confirmed the Auchenharvie Leisure Centre has suffered damage to parts of its structure.

Prestwick Airport had to shut down all flights, with them set to make a decision on getting planes off the ground on Friday later in the evening.

Road across Ayrshire remain closed in many parts, with residents warned to stay indoors if they can.
