Scotland has decided and now counting is well under way to elect 129 members of the Scottish Parliament.

The SNP will come out on top – but will they get the majority they crave?

We'll answer all the big questions as the results come in and stories emerge, along with analysis and reaction from our Political Editor Alan Smith and our reporters all across the country.

KEY EVENTS

*Another big win for the Lib Dems - they've take a 6th seat in the Highlands with David Green winning Caithness and Sutherland.

*There's been a clutch win for Labour veteran Jackie Baillie in Dumbarton. A key ally of Anas Sarwar increased her majority.

*It's been a good day for the Lid Dems too - they've now landed 5 seats with Adam Harley winning Strathkelvin and Bearsden near Glasgow from the SNP.

*Another huge moment for the Greens - they've won Glasgow Southside, formerly held by Nicola Sturgeon. They now have two wins - Hilly Bruce defeating cabinet ministet Kaukab Stewart - after Lorna Slater's historic win earlier in Edinburgh.

*More bad news for Anas Sarwar - the Labour leader is comfortably beaten in Glasgow Cathcart and Pollok by newcomer Zen Ghani who holds the seat for the SNP.

*Big news in Ednburgh Northern as The Greens win their first ever seat - Lorna Slater triumphing. It was a chastening day for Angus Robertson - the former cabinet secretary - finishing third.

*A third seat for the Lib Dems as former leader Willie Rennie romps to success in North Fife.

"Cunninghame North in Ayrshire and Glasgow's Anniesland have also been held by the SNP.

*Better news for the Lib Dems - they've won their second seat taking Edinburgh North from the SNP.

*Counting here still to begin in Invenrness! So it could still be some time before we have any declaration for the seats of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross, Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, and Inverness and Nairn. That's before we even get to the regional vote.

*Siobahn Brown has held Ayr for the SNP. There are also holds in Stirling and Bathgate as well as East Lothian Coast and Lammermuirs and Cumberbauld and Kilsyth.

*A win for the SNP in Mid Fife Glenrothes. Again it's success for a former cabinet minister Jenny Gilruth.

"Michelle Campbell holds Renfrewshire North and Cardonald for the SNP. And wins too in Motherwell & Wishaw and Aberdeen Donside.

*Convincing SNP hold for the finance minister Ivan McKee in Glasgow Easterhous over Labour's Paul Sweeney.

*SNP hold Aberdeen East - but it was a tight one for Gillian Martin who just managed to hold off Douglas Lumsden of the Tories with Reform again polling well.

*Another success for Scottish Conservatives in the south of Scotland - Craig Hoy has narrowly edged Stephen Tomlinson in Dumfries-shire.

*Moray - a seat targetted by the Tories - has been won by the SNP by over 2,000 votes. Laura Mithcell holds off Tim Eagle

*Mixed emotions for the Conservatives - they've narrowly lost Glasgow's Eastwood - Jackson Carlow edged by the SNP's Kisten Oswald. But Finlay Carson keeps his seat in Galloway South Dumfries.

*Another SNP hold - also in Fife - as Shirley-Anne Sommerville - part of John Swinney's last cabinet - is electted again.

*SNP HOLD Cowdenbeath - David Barrett taking over from Annabelle Ewing

*A win for THE SNP's Sarah Peddie in Midlothian North

*Finally some joy for Labour! Donald McKinnon has taken Na h-Eileanan an lar - formerly known as the Western Isles - from the SNP.

*SNP hold two more seats with George Adam winning in Paisley and Simita Kumar, who was the SNP group leader in Edinburgh city council, taking Edinburgh South Westen

*So close for Reform's Conrad Ritchie in Banffshire and Buchan Coast who finished just 364 votes behind the SNP - with Karen Adam taking that constituency.

*Two more SNP wins - Jim Fairlie in Perthshire South and former councillor Kate Campbell who has taken the Edinburgh Eastern, Musselbugh and Tranent.

*Stephen Flynn, the former SNP leader at Westminster, has become the MSP for Aberdeen, Deeside and North Kincardine - with a tight win over the Conservatives' Liam Kerr.

*John Swinney unsprisingly holds Perth and Kinross - but Murdo Fraser again polled well for the Tories in second place and is set to become a list MSP again.

*Anas Sarwar has conceded defeat in the Holyrood election with just seven seats declared.

*Orkney is he first seat to be called. Liam McArthur, the man behind the asssited dying bill that was defeated at Hollyrood, has retained his seat with a massive majroity

*The SNP hold Dundee West with new candidate Helen Anderson comfortably holding off Labour's Michael Marra.

*The SNP have gained Shetland from the Lib Dems - there's been a 10 per cent swing in voting there.

*Jack Middleton is the new SNP MSP for Aberdeen Central with a comfortable hold for the party

*Convincing SNP hold in Kilmarnock and Loudon - Alan Brown over 4,500 ahead of Labour - bu it was of their safest seats.

*Another unsurprising SNP victory as Stephen Gethins wins Dundee City East. That means there will be a by-election for the Westminster seat of Arbroath and Broughty Ferry where he is the MP.

*It's the same story in the Ayrshire constituency of Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley where Katie Hagmann holds for the SNP bu significantly, Reform gained 24% of the vote.
