Pensioner in serious condition after being hit by car in Irvine

A pensioner is in a serious condition after being hit by a car in Irvine.

The 77-year-old man was rushed to Crosshouse University Hospital following the crash which took place around 3.10pm on Eglinton Street.

Police say the driver of the white Mini Cooper Clubman involved in the collision was uninjured.

Crash investigation work closed the road for more than four hours with it re-opening at around 7.15pm.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who might have witnessed the incident or have any additional information about what happened to come forward.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart, from the Ayrshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances, and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened.

“We are also asking anyone driving in the area at the time to check their dash-cam to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
