Investigation work is set to get under way in a popular Irvine play zone which has been closed for safety reasons.
Parents and carers are advised that the Golffields playpark will remain temporarily closed while investigations are carried out into subsidence in a small section of the facility.
Work is scheduled to get under way in the week commencing Monday, August 11 to find the cause of the issue.
As a short-term measure, the equipment has been removed from the park and the area fenced off.
This will allow the affected area to be properly excavated by specialist contractors ahead of any remediation works which may be required.
Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy at North Ayrshire Council is putting safety first.
He admits it is important investigations are carried out on the leisure facility.
Cllr Gurney said: “The well-being of our young people is paramount so it’s important we establish why a small section of the park has been affected by what appears to be subsidence.
“It is our intention to reinstate the play facility when we are certain the issue has been resolved and there is no risk to visitors. In the meantime, I would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding.”
