Police in North Ayrshire are searching for a man who disappeared after reportedly entering the sea near Burnlea Road in Largs in the early hours of Tuesday.

Officers received the report at 12.12am and immediately launched a search operation, but the man remains missing.

The man is described as a white male in his 20s, tall, of slim build, with no facial hair, and dressed entirely in black with a hooded jacket.

In their appeal, police have also released descriptions of two men who were seen in the area around the time and are believed to be potential witnesses.

The second man is described as a white male in a black jacket, blue trousers, dark-coloured trainers with a light-coloured heel, and a dark-coloured Trapper hat.

Inspector Martin Fraser, of Police Scotland, said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace the man seen in the water and establish his identity.

“We are appealing for anyone with information which could assist our investigation, including private CCTV or dashcam footage, to please come forward.

“We would particularly urge the two men who were in the area around midnight to please get in touch as they may have seen the unidentified man or have information that could help us.”
