North Shields’ prodigal son Sam Fender has joined forces with Sir Elton John on a new song called ‘Talk to You’.

Released on Friday 17th October, the track features vocals and guitar from Sam Fender with Elton John tinkling the ivories.

Sharing the artwork for the collaborative song, Sam Fender wrote on social media: ‘Talk to You’ featuring the legend Elton John on piano, out this Friday x’

Sam gave ‘Talk to You’ its live debut at the Roadrunner venue in Boston on 17th September and he’s since played it eight further times on his North American tour.

Back in February 2020, Elton John joined Sam on stage for a rousing rendition of ‘Will We Talk?’ at the Rocketman’s annual Oscars party.

A huge fan of the ‘Seventeen Going Under’ singer, Sir Elton personally booked Sam Fender to perform at his 28th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party in West Hollywood, California a month before lockdown.

Shortly before Christmas 2020, Sam exclusively told Absolute Radio’s Sarah Champion that he’d written a song with Elton John.

Revealing that Elton is saved in his phone as ‘Uncle Elton’, Sam let slip about the collaboration, saying: “I mean we wrote a song together so… we haven’t… nobody’s heard it but… but yeah.”

Asked by Sarah if it will appear on his second album, Sam replied: “Probably not on my album, we may just release it as like a thing together.”

Sam Fender will perform at the Mercury Prize ceremony at Newcastle Utilita Arena on Thursday night (16th October). His album ‘People Watching’ is nominated for the prestigious award.
