A star-studded tribute concert for late-great Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield will take place in Manchester later this spring.

The event called Manichester: A Tribute to a True Manc Legend will take place at the 5,000-capacity Diecast venue on Saturday 30th May, with proceedings kicking off at 2pm.

The first confirmed acts include Cast, New Order / Joy Division legend Peter Hook and his band The Kowloons, and a special assembled core band consisting of Aziz Ibrahim, Rowetta, Simone Bitler and Mick Rossi.

The all-star roster includes The Zutons’ Dave McCabe, The Fratellis’ Baz Fratelli, The Who/Oasis/Mantra of the Cosmos drummer Zak Starkey, Steve White, and Reverend and the Makers’ Jon McClure.

Organisers promise that a major headliner and more names will be announced in the coming weeks.

A descripton of Manichester reads: ‘A host of rock ’n’ roll heavyweights are coming together to celebrate the life, legacy and unmistakable basslines of Gary “Mani” Mounfield — the heartbeat of a generation and a pillar of Manchester music.

‘Organised by Madchester.com and GIOGOI, and blessed by Mani’s family, Manichester will unite artists who played with him, learned from him, or were shaped by that iconic low-end rumble that changed British music forever.

‘The spark for this tribute came from a moment in São Paulo, when Damon Minchella played the bassline from She Bangs the Drums to 80,000 people and the place erupted. That’s the power of Mani. That’s the legacy we’re honouring.

‘Artwork for the event comes from none other than John Squire, whose new design will feature on flyers, promo and limited-edition physical tickets.

‘All proceeds will support Mani and Imelda’s twin boys, Gene and George, honouring the love, strength and spirit that defined their family.’

Tickets to Manichester will be available here.

Mani died in November 2025 aged just 63.
