They dedicate the cover to Mani
Turnstile have recorded a cover of The Stone Roses’ ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ in tribute to late-great bassist Mani.
The Baltimore rockers version of The Stone Roses’ classic 1989 anthem features in the latest instalment of triple j’s Like A Version series, which sees well-known artists cover songs for the US radio station.
Explaining why they picked ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, vocalist Brendan Yates told triple j: “I love this song, it’s one of my favourite songs of all time. It’s unconventional and simple and very… just beautiful.”
Guitarist Meg Mills chipped in: “And one of the most iconic basslines of all time. I think it’s so powerful in its simplicity.”
Paying tribute to Mani, who died aged 63 last November, Mills continued: “It seems like a really fitting time (to cover ‘I Wanna Be Adored’).
“With the passing of Mani, it felt like a really appropriate time to kind of like pay homage to him. Definitely as a Brit, Stone Roses is one of those bands that every kid that had any inkling towards anything alternative just knew from such an early age.
“Such an iconic band and, in my opinion, probably the coolest of all the Manchester bands coming out at that time.”
