Man charged in connection with town centre death in Welshpool

A 22 year old man has been charged with murder after an incident in Welshpool town centre over the weekend.

Dyfed Powys Police launched an investigation after being called to Church Street at 1:16am on Sunday morning, following reports that someone had been injured.

Despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, the victim, identified as 49 year old Young John Mongan from Walsall, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Martin Slezak, of Stanley Street in Welshpool, has been charged with murder and is expected to appear in court today (30th June).

The investigation continues as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the man's death.
