Detectives continue investigation after man arrested following deaths in St Leonards

Police investigations are ongoing following the arrest of a man suspected of two murders in St Leonards on Tuesday, 30th June.

Officers were called to an address on Seven Acre Close shortly after 4.30am where reports indicated two individuals had been injured.

A 66-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were discovered deceased inside the residence.

Detective Superintendent Jay Mendis-Gunasekera commented: “This is a tragic loss of life and our thoughts are with the victims and their families and friends at this very difficult time."

A 58-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the man and woman, and he remains in police custody currently.

Mendis-Gunasekera explained that the investigation is unfolding rapidly to comprehend the broader circumstances, with the revelation that the suspect and victims were known to each other.

As of now, no additional suspects are being sought in connection with this case.

To assist with ongoing enquiries, police presence in the area has been increased.

Detectives are urging anyone with pertinent information, such as CCTV, doorbell, mobile phone, or dashcam footage, to report online or contact the non-emergency number 101, quoting Operation Newington.
