Middlesbrough head coach Rob Edwards will not be in the dugout for Saturday's Sky Bet Championship match against Birmingham amid interest from Wolves, according to reports.
The 42-year-old's scheduled pre-match press conference was cancelled on Friday after Wolves had an approach to speak to him rejected by Boro the previous day.
Edwards also did not take training ahead of the match and has now reportedly been stood down from the game itself at the Riverside Stadium.
Edwards has emerged as the leading candidate to take over at Wolves after the sacking of Vitor Pereira last weekend following their winless start to the Premier League season.
The former Luton boss only took charge at Middlesbrough in June, signing a three-year deal following the departure of Michael Carrick.
Edwards has history with Wolves having previously played and coached at the club, including a brief stint as caretaker manager in 2016.
Wolves caretaker boss James Collins is confident the squad have what it takes to get themselves out of relegation trouble.
They begin today eight points adrift of safety and sit bottom of the Premier League and remain without a win after the opening 10 games.
