After a remarkable Championship-winning season, the Sky Blues are preparing to take on the biggest clubs in English football once again.

Coventry's return has been one of the biggest stories of the season. Having worked their way back through the divisions, the Sky Blues now find themselves preparing for their first Premier League campaign since 2001 and a chance to write a new chapter in the club's history books.

The journey back has united supporters, businesses and communities across the city, with promotion sparking celebrations everywhere. If you'd like to hear more about how Coventry came together to celebrate the club's return to the Premier League, listen to our special report below as we look back on the highs of a historic season.

The foundations for the club's return were laid during an outstanding 2025-26 campaign. Lampard's side spent much of the season at the top of the Championship, with consistency sealing promotion before being crowned champions.

Their place in the Premier League was confirmed in a dramatic fashion when Bobby Thomas scored a late equaliser away at Blackburn Rovers, sparking celebrations among thousands of travelling supporters and those watching on back home.

What followed was a city-wide party. Pubs were packed, sky blue flags appeared across Coventry and local businesses embraced the moment with everything from Coventry City themed sweets to blue sausages. The club's success became the talk of the city, culminating in the "We Are Back" promotion parade as thousands lined the streets to celebrate alongside the players.

Lampard's influence has been impossible to ignore. Since arriving in 2024, the former Chelsea and England star has helped transform the club and guided Coventry to one of their most successful seasons. His side shared goals across the pitch, with Haji Wright, Ellis Simms, Jack Rudoni and Victor Torp all playing key roles in the promotion push.

Preparations for life in the Premier League are already under way. Fan favourite Gustavo Hamer has returned to the club from Sheffield United, while goalkeeper Carl Rushworth has also been secured permanently after an impressive season.

There will be tougher tests ahead, with Arsenal among the first opponents waiting for Lampard's side this week. But after a quarter of a century away, the real adventure is only just beginning for Coventry City fans.
