A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged in Perth after a bomb disposal team responded to a “suspicious item” in the area.

The incident led to the evacuation of homes in Fairmount Terrace.

At around 6.45pm on Thursday, a controlled explosion was carried out as a precaution.

Police Scotland confirmed that there is no wider risk to the public following the explosion.

The teenager has been released but must appear in court at a later date.

Residents have now returned to their homes.

Police Scotland said: “There will continue to be a police presence in the area as further inquiries are carried out and anyone with concerns can approach officers or call 101, quoting incident number 2801 of May 21.”
