A prisoner who failed to return to an Ayrshire jail after an approved home visit has been traced by police after four days.

James Fitzpatrick, 36, was reported missing from HMP Castle Huntly in Dundee - Scotland's only open prison - on Tuesday 30 December after failing to report back after the visit.

Police issued an appeal to trace him, and he had last been seen in Irvine and Stevenson in North Ayrshire.

Members of the public had been advised not to approach him.
