Police Scotland has seized almost £14 million worth of drugs in a single week, a new record for recoveries across the country.

Among the drugs that have been found are cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis. The finds were made between Thursday the 11th and Thursday the 18th of Decmber.

In that period, the largest bust was in Bellshill in North Lanarkshire. Officers executed a warrant and found more than £8 million worth of cocaine.

In Fraserburgh, police seized ecstasy, amphetamine and mephedrone worth more than £3.5 million.

Meanwhile, officers in Perthshire uncovered more than £1 million of cocaine at an address after acting on intelligence.

Other notable busts were made in Bridge of Earn and Elgin, each around £500,000. Officers on the M74 near Moffat also found a significant quantity of cocaine when they stopped a car and found £175,000 worth inside.

In total, fifteen people have been arrested or charged in connection with drugs offences following these recoveries.

Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston said: “These significant seizures mark one of our most successful weeks for removing drugs from the streets of Scotland, and they will have a huge impact on the cocaine supply across the country".

“Policing does not stop just because it’s Christmas time and we remain relentless in our fight against drugs".
