NHS Tayside's Medical Director has dismissed online rumours that a Dundee school has been affected by the coronavirus.

St Paul's Academy took to social media yesterday to dispel fears from parents.

It came after the first positive case in Scotland was confirmed as a Tayside resident.

Now Professor Peter Stonebridge is reassuring people there are no positive cases in any Dundee school.

"A number of parents have been in contact with NHS Tayside and Dundee City Council education service querying rumours of a case of Coronavirus in a Dundee school," he said.

"We can reassure families in Dundee that there are no confirmed cases of Coronavirus linked to any school in the city.

"Contact tracing for the Tayside resident who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) has been completed and all those who had direct contact with the individual, and were assessed as requiring follow-up, have been informed and given the appropriate advice by the local health protection team.

"The guidance for everyone else remains the same: we can all play our part in protecting against the virus by washing our hands frequently and making sure we sneeze and cough into a tissue before putting the tissue straight into the bin.”
