Firefighters tackle blaze after reports of an 'explosion' near Perth harbour

Warehouses have been evacuated as firefighters tackle a blaze following reports of an explosion at a business unit in Perth.

Police said Riverview Business Park has also been closed as emergency services deal with the incident in Friarton Road.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent six appliances to the scene when the alarm was raised at 10.47am on Friday.

Police said Friarton Road is closed at Cromlix Road and Shore Road.

Officers urged people to avoid the area.

An SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 10.47am on Friday, 23 January, to reports of an explosion at Riverview Business Park, Friarton Road, Perth.

“Operations Control mobilised six appliances and a number of specialist resources to the scene where firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting a commercial property.

“Crews remain at the scene.”
