Two Doors Down started off as a one-off TV show, but it was quickly commissioned for a full series, and went on to get its eighth series commissioned earlier this year.

We caught up with the actors as they were gearing up for their Two Doors Down live shows at the end of September, preparing for their biggest shows yet. But don't worry if you missed them because due to high demand, they will be back this weekend, between 9th and 11th October at the OVO Hydro.

Chatting about the success of the show, Jonathan Watson, who plays Colin in the series, explained what it was like taking the show from a one-off to a popular TV show. He said: "People call it the pilot, but it really wasn't, we didn't know it was pilot, it was a one-off.

"Somebody had pulled out of doing a production in Hogmanay and BBC One Network, and they dusted the cobwebs off the script, and before we knew it, we were in a semi-detached in Paisley for about 10 days, filming non-stop.

"It came out, it was came out just when social media was beginning with an impact, and we would never have thought it was going to be, what it's become."

Alex Norton, who plays Eric, continued: "No, I had no idea (it was going to be popular). I mean, like you probably, I just, I was asked if I would do it, thinking it was a one-off, a kind of New Year's show, and I thought, this is great, this is a great script. Because it's not just people acting funny in a funny sitcom. There's a lot of truth here. And what was that thing that I heard about comedy, true good comedy? Real comedy is tragedy with its trousers down."

He added: "So, you know, at the heart of it, there is certainly that pilot that we did, as it turned out to be. There was a bit of melancholy, a bit of a lot of truth, and that's the thing that attracted me to it. And when I read it, I thought, I'm not going to turn this down. This is terrific."

Alex also responded to the size of the venue, revealing he'd not been before, saying: "I'll take somebody's word for that, because I've never been inside it. Oh, my first time I've been inside it will be when I'm on the stage there, in front of those 12,000 people."

Chatting to other members of the cast, Arabella Weir (Beth) explained what it was like bringing the TV show to the stage. The actress said: "We all know each other so well and we've worked together for so long, it's like, you know, it's a reboot of a different thing in a different medium - if that's the right word. But no, it's really good fun."

Elaine C Smith (Christine) added: "There's a sort of plateau you get to. I always think, before you get to a performance, the week before, when you're still learning and we're still doing all that... that is the exhausting bit, but with the audience being in just lifts the whole thing. And also the threat of an audience terrifies you more than anything!"
