Perth Autism Support
Perth Autism Support is an organisation based in Perth that supports young people with autism and additional support needs. The support comes in various forms, such as group socialising sessions, one-to-one support, an outreach hub, term time and holiday sessions. These all run with the intention of helping develop the comfort and confidence of the young people who attend, as well as helping them develop independence and new skills.
Perth Autism Support is currently the only facility of its type in all of Perth and Kinross, and currently support roughly 1400 young people. Their service provides a lifeline to many young people with ASN in the region.
As part of our Holiday Hunger grant round, Cash for Kids were able to provide funding for the food to use as part of their Holiday Cooking sessions. These sessions helped teach the young people about food hygiene, culinary skills and different recipes, culminating in a special lunch being cooked by the young people for the Perth Autism Support board and some other guests- which we've been invited along to, we can't wait!
As part of our visit to the premises following our support, the young people were taking part in their first cooking session of the summer, making spaghetti bolognaise (which smelled delicious) before enjoying the Holiday Hangout session, where they were able to have some fun on the Switch, playing pool and more!
It was clear to see how safe and comfortable the young people felt as part of Perth Autism Support, and the skills that they were being taught will carry over into later life, with the independence being learned helping them moving forward. We were delighted to have been able to support such an amazing group.
