A 53-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Southwark.

James Flanagan, of Stead Street, North Walworth, appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court on 18th December, where he was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 22nd December.

Police attended an address on Rodney Road, North Walworth, at 2.23pm on 14th December after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman.

Officers discovered Julie Wilson, 58, dead at the scene. Her family is being supported by specialist officers at this time.

Flanagan, who was arrested at the address, has since been charged with murder.

Detective Inspector Mark Franklin, of the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime South, said, "Our thoughts are with Julie's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."

He added, "While a man has now been charged, our investigation continues, and we urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to us to come forward."
