A man has been arrested after four people were injured in crashes in Rochdale.

Emergency services were called to two collisions in Woodgate Avenue and Whitworth Road at around 2.30pm this afternoon (Saturday 3rd May 2025).

One of those hurt is potentially in a life-threatening condition. The other three people, including a child, suffered minor injuries.

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and attempted murder. He has been detained in hospital.

A scene remains in place while emergency services personnel conduct their enquiries.

Assistant Chief Constable John Webster from Greater Manchester Police said: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred in Rochdale today. Our officers are supporting the victims and their families at this time.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident with one lone offender arrested and in hospital.

“Additional resources will remain deployed to the local area, please speak to officers if you have any concerns.

“We are working tirelessly to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of our community.

“We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in our efforts. We will provide updates as more details become available."
