Skunk Anansie rocker Skin has spoken of her friendship with late Motörhead legend Lemmy.
Interviewed in the new issue of Metal Hammer, Skin said Motörhead took Skunk Anansie under their wings early in the band’s career, and she struck up a close bond with Lemmy.
“He was very gentle. He was the most authentic person I’ve met. He was who he was, and he wasn’t going to hide it,” Skin said.
“Also, he had absolutely the most perfect skin you’d ever imagine on a man, good baby skin. He was such a gentleman. We were writing music together whenever I was in LA, and I had the sweetest messages from him.
“I remember one time I was supposed to write with him, and I couldn’t, because I’d had a break-up, and he just left me the loveliest, kindest thing: ‘I’m here for you. Come over to LA and we’ll hang out.’ He was a sweetheart.”
Skin previously revealed to Kerrang that she and Lemmy were planning to record a song together prior to his untimely death in December 2015.
"The saddest thing was that I never got to finish that track with him that he was doing on his solo album,” Skin said at the time. “We kept meeting up and drinking and never actually got into the studio, and this went on for three-four years.
“We would meet up in LA and we’d end up drinking all night and not actually doing any work. Finally, I said to him, ‘Look, we’ve got to record this track, I’m going to book some studio time, we’re gonna do it and blah blah blah,’ and by that time he was too ill. He said ‘I’m not so well at the moment, I’m going to get back to you.’”
A bronze statue created by acclaimed sculptor and keen Motörhead fan Andy Edwards will be unveiled in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent on Friday 9th May 2025.
