Rush triumph at first concert in 11 years at Los Angeles Kia Forum – setlist, photos and video

Rush performed their first concert in 11 years on Sunday night (7th June) as the band’s Fifty Something Tour kicked off at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

The Kia Forum was poignantly the location of Neil Peart’s last-ever Rush performance in August 2015, and the Sunday’s spectacular show featured several video tributes to the legendary drummer, including during a highly emotional ‘Bravado’.

The sold-out LA gig, the first date of a four-night residency, was also German touring drummer Anika Nilles’ first full concert with Rush and her faultless performance throughout the epic 24-song set was met with widespread praise from fans.

As the video below shows, the 18,000-capacity crowd cheered as Anika absolute nailed the drum solo during ‘Tom Sawyer’:

One impressed viewer said: “That cheer from the crowd showing their appreciation after Anika nailed the solo is everything good in this world right now! Bottle that up for me please, I want more!!!! Bravo Anika! RUSH fans are the best.”

Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Anika and touring keyboardist Loren Gold opened the night with a spine-tingling, swagger-packed rendition of ‘Xanadu’ – the first time the band have started a show with the ‘A Farewell to Kings’ classic.

Set 2 opened with ‘2112 Overture’ and other timeless anthems performed throughout the night include ‘The Spirit of Radio’, ‘La Villa Strangiato’, and set-closer ‘Working Man’.

Rush play their second show at Los Angeles Kia Forum on Tuesday (9th June), and, as Geddy and Alex have promised, they will mix up the setlist at each night.
