Nirvana pay tribute to Kurt Cobain as they accept MTV Video Vanguard Award
Dave, Kurt and Pat attended the ceremony on Sunday night
Nirvana members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear attended the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (27th September) to accept the highest honour of the night, the Video Vanguard Award.
During his speech at the Peacock Theatre, bassist Krist paid homage to late-great Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, saying: "The ideas for those videos all grew out of the vision of one of the greatest artists of all time, Kurt Cobain.
"Kurt was one of one. None of us could have imagined that our band, our sound, or our aesthetic would mean so much to so many people, but ultimately the music had a life of its own.
"It charted its own course. Nirvana continues to resonate so deeply because people are still hungry for authenticity. For something real, something uncompromising. Something that tells you it’s just okay to come as you are. Kurt would’ve loved that legacy."
The Video Vanguard Award is awarded to musicians for their "outstanding contributions" and "profound impact" on popular culture.
Nirvana accepted the honour 35 years after the release of their landmark album 'Nevermind'.
