Metallica unleash 'The Call of Ktulu' video from Sphere residency
Astonishing stuff
Metallica have shared their first official live video from their Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
Filmed on the opening night of the residency on Thursday 1st October, the 10-minute performance of classic ‘Ride the Lightning’ instrumental ‘The Call of Ktulu’ is available to watch in its glorious entirety.
As a miniscule Metallica perform on the stage, astonishing visuals of a giant extraterrestrial Cthulhu emerging from the ocean is projected onto the Sphere’s 112 metres high and 157 metres wide wraparound interior LED screen.
Poignantly, the performance ended with Ross Halfin’s iconic photo of Cliff Burton hovering about the Cthulhu, with Hetfield telling the crowd: “That was ‘The Call of Ktulu’ for you Las Vegas, in honour of our fallen brother. We miss you and we love you, brother.”

James Hetfield hit global headlines this week when he insisted Metallica won’t voice political views at concerts “like some other entertainers.”
Addressing the capacity crowd on Saturday 10th October, Papa Het said: “Unless you live in Vegas, you’ve come a long way to spend some time with Metallica.
“We’re grateful for that - your travels, the money you spend, the time it took, thanks for coming to celebrate with us.
“And I just gotta say, Metallica is not here, like some other… entertainers, to influence you with their bulls---, OK? We’re here to forget about all the outside s---, OK?
“Metallica’s agenda is love, energy and heavy music, baby!”
