Marillion's 21st studio album is nearly finished
The band have given fans an update
Marillion have told fans they’re “very much heading into the closing stages” of work on their 21st studio album.
The neo-prog legends released their last album ‘An Hour Before It's Dark’ back in March 2022, and band members Mark Kelly and Steve Hogarth have teased new material in recent interviews.
In an exciting update on Thursday, Marillion said: “The new album is now firmly in the “cooking with gas” stage. We have a strong batch of songs and will be heading to Real World Studios next week to work through them, fine tune, and decide what makes the final cut. We are very much heading into the closing stages.
“At some point over the summer we’ll launch one of our now infamous pre orders, and we hope you’ll want to be part of it again. Your support genuinely makes all of this possible. It is unlikely the album will be released before this year’s tour dates, but we are hopeful we might be able to play one or two new songs on the road.
“We should also be able to share the album title fairly soon. We are just… discussing it.”
Marillion UK tour:
Marillion embark on a 14-date headline UK tour this September and October that visits Portsmouth, Brighton, York, Manchester, Bristol, Nottingham, Aylesbury, Birmingham, Cambridge, Gateshead, Liverpool and Edinburgh before concluding with two nights at London Eventim Apollo Hammersmith.
The band will be performing songs from across their entire storied career on the tour, and, hopefully, new music from their new album.
Vocalist Steve 'h' Hogarth says: “We’ve always said that there’s nothing quite like playing live in the UK. The sheer emotional energy at these shows is usually pretty extraordinary. I’d buy a ticket to watch the crowd, if I didn’t get to do it for free."
Tickets are on sale from Planet Rock Tickets now.
Mark Kelly's Cash for Kids T-shirt:
In other Marillion news, keyboardist Mark Kelly has designed an exclusive, limited-edition Planet Rock T-shirt to help raise vital funds for Cash for Kids.
Mark Kelly’s design is a sketch of himself and his bandmates Steve Rothery, Steve ‘h’ Hogarth, Pete Trewavas, and Ian Mosley. It’s printed on an ice grey T-shirt.
Available to order RIGHT HERE for £25 until Sunday 3rd May only, all profits from sales of the black T-shirt will go to Cash for Kids to support young children and young people affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, life-limiting illness and those who have additional needs.
