Journey drummer Deen Castronovo was rushed to hospital on Thursday night (8th October) after suffering a medical emergency at the band’s concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

After performing ‘Stone in Love’ two songs into Journey’s set at the BOK Center, Castronovo fell ill and was taken off stage.

Keyboardist Jonathan Cain said: “Our drummer is having a medical emergency. We’re going to see what happens as this progresses.

“It’s an unfortunate situation. We’re very sorry. We’re hoping it’s only a delay, but please — I’m sorry. Don’t worry. Have your prayers ready. Have your prayers ready for Deen Castronovo, everybody. Thank you.”

After a 25-minute intermission, guitarist Neal Schon revealed that 62-year-old Castronovo had been taken to hospital and the concert was going to proceed with drum tech Steve Toomey filling in.

"Give a big hand for Steve Toomey," Schon said. "We love you all. We're very sorry for the inconvenience."

Towards the end of the 19-year-old set, Schon added: “This concert is for Deen tonight. I’d love you all to pray for him. Everybody’s been going through a lot. I think he’s going to be fine.”

Deen Castronovo rejoined Journey in 2021 for a second stint behind the drum kit. He previously played with them from 1998 to 2015.

Previously a member of The Dead Daisies, Hardline and Bad English, Castronovo has also played with Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai, Paul Rodgers and Geezer Butler to name but a few.

Everyone at Planet Rock wishes Deen Castronovo a swift and full recovery.
