Silver ring created for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath up for auction
Street artist Jagga designed it for their final Villa Park concert
A solid silver ring specially created for Ozzy Osbourne and his Black Sabbath band mates Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler is set to go under the hammer next month.
Enigmatic street artist Jagga designed a set of six rings to commemorate Black Sabbath’s historic Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park on Saturday 5th July, and four of them were personally gifted to Ozzy, Tony, Bill and Geezer.
The rings are adorned with Black Sabbath’s band name, the lion from the Aston Villa Football Club crest, and the year 1968 when Sabbath formed in Birmingham.
A spare ring from the set will go up for auction at Hansons Auctioneers’ TV memorabilia and music sale on Wednesday 17th September, and it’s expected to fetch between £1,200 and £1,500.
Hansons’ music memorabilia expert, Claire Howell, said: “Music fan Jagga designed these rings for Ozzy Osbourne personally to celebrate the Back to the Beginning concert after to speaking to the agent of the band’s bassist Terence ‘Geezer’ Butler.
“He made one for each band member and a spare. This is a rare and unique opportunity to buy this last remaining ring. Given the close timing to Ozzy’s sad death just over a fortnight later, the gesture is all the more poignant.”
A study from the University of Birmingham last week revealed that the Back to the Beginning concert contributed £33.8 million to the economy, £27.6m of which was retained in the West Midlands region.
