Bernie Marsden’s daughters, Charlotte and Olivia Marsden, attended the BMI Awards in London this week to accept his posthumous award for Whitesnake’s classic song ‘Here I Go Again’.

Whitesnake leader David Coverdale and guitarist Bernie Marsden co-wrote ‘Here I Go Again’ in late 1981 at a small villa in Portugal, and it first appeared on the band’s ‘Saints & Sinners’ album in 1982.

Five years later, the seminal song achieved new levels of popularity when it was re-recorded for Whitesnake’s blockbuster self-titled album, and a second MTV-friendly music video was filmed starring Tawny Kitaen.

At the BMI Awards on Monday (28th September), Charlotte and Olivia Marsden received Bernie’s Special Citation of Achievement award to recognise 11 million broadcast performances of ‘Here I Go Again’ across radio, streaming services, film, and television in the USA.

Bernie’s official social media channels called it “an achievement that Bernie would have been incredibly proud of.”

Bernie Marsden died aged 72 in August 2023.
