Zoo issues statement after boy injured in Crocodile enclosure in Huntingdon

Johnsons of Old Hurst Zoo has released a statement for the first time after a three-year-old boy was injured in a crocodile enclosure.

The incident happened on 18th June, when a man a 30-year-old man allegedly threw the boy into the enclosure, leading to his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder.

"Above all, our thoughts remain with the young boy and his family," the statement from Johnsons read. "We continue to hope and pray for his speedy recovery."

Police have since bailed the suspect, citing unfitness for the interview. The boy remains at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in a stable condition, facing a lengthy recovery.

The zoo expressed profound gratitude for the kindness and support received from the local community and nationwide, noting the importance of this support during a challenging time.

The boy's family has also shared their appreciation for the zoo staff's rescue efforts through a statement from Cambridgeshire Police.

A crowdfunding page has been launched to aid in the child's recovery and rehabilitation, with surplus funds set to benefit charities and Addenbrooke’s Trust organisations.
