Two men have been arrested on suspicion of trespassing at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire, as Counter Terrorism Police continue their investigation.

Security patrols from the Ministry of Defence Police discovered an abandoned vehicle near the base perimeter at around 10pm on 7th October.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary officers assisted in further searches, identifying a breach in the perimeter fence.

The two men, aged 36 and 32, both Latvian nationals residing in the UK, were found and arrested within the base and taken into custody.

Initially held on suspicion of trespass and criminal damage, they were later arrested on suspicion under the National Security Act 2023.

Commander Helen Flanagan of Counter Terrorism Policing London said, "Our investigation into this incident is at its very early stages. We are keeping an open mind about potential motives."

While searches have been conducted at addresses in Peterborough, and concerns led to the deployment of explosive ordnance disposal officers, no threats have been found.

Cordons affecting roads in the Glatton area have been lifted, and the Counter Terrorism Police are working collaboratively with Cambridgeshire Constabulary and MDP.

Anyone noticing suspicious activity is encouraged to report it by calling 0800 789321 or online via the government website.
