Homes evacuated after 'suspicious package' found in Nottinghamshire village

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax and is being questioned by police

Homes have been evacuated and the bomb squad sent to a Nottinghamshire village following reports of a suspicious package found outside.

It was discovered on Westdale Road, Jacksdale, at around 7:50am today (8 Oct).

Nottinghamshire Police said:

"Out of caution, our officers have evacuated nearby properties pending further investigations by explosive ordinance disposal engineers.

"Residents affected by the evacuation can go to Jacksdale Garden Centre, which has been made available as a place of safety.

"We'd like to thank local residents for their cooperation and assure them that we are working to resolve the situation as efficiently and safely as possible."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue has also been in attendance.

Update from police:

"This incident has been safely resolved and residents are able to return to their properties.

"A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax and is being questioned by police.

"Our enquiries are at an early stage and we thank local residents for their patience and understanding."
