A police officer who was charged with an Aberdeen rape won't face further court proceedings.

Gary Forbes, who's 31, had appeared at Aberdeen Sherriff Court in November 2024, accused of raping the 34-year-old woman in the city three months earlier.

But now the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service have confirmed the case won't go any further at this stage.

A spokesperson said : “After careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, including the available admissible evidence, Crown Counsel instructed that there should be no further proceedings taken at this time.

"The Crown reserves the right to proceed in the future should further evidence become available."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are aware of the outcome of the case and the circumstances will now be considered by our Professional Standards Department under the Police Service of Scotland (Conduct) Regulations 2014."
