A man has admitted attempting to smuggle cannabis worth nearly £700,000 into Scotland through Aberdeen International Airport.

Humza Ghani, 27, was apprehended by Border Force officers after drugs detection dog Storm identified suspicious luggage upon Ghani's arrival on the evening of 20th December, 2024.

Ghani had travelled from Thailand via London, carrying two large suitcases—one green, the other gold—secured with combination locks and wrapped in shrink-wrap.

Cannabis Discovery

Prosecutor Bill McVicar explained at the High Court in Glasgow that each suitcase contained 44 vacuum-sealed half-kilogram packages of herbal substance confirmed to be cannabis.

The potential value of the haul was £654,720.

Officers also confiscated £540 in cash, boarding passes, and Ghani's passport.

Legal Proceedings

Ghani, from Ealing, West London, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis and faced significant legal consequences due to his previous drug convictions.

Defence lawyer Kelly Duling requested that Ghani remain on bail ahead of sentencing.

However, Judge Lord Arthurson revoked the bail order, stating: "Given the nature, weight and value of the drugs, custody is inevitable. Your bail order is revoked and you will be remanded into custody."

The case has been adjourned until 22nd September in Edinburgh.

Marcus Roache, 27, and Ibraham Conteh, 21, both from London, were also due to face charges but failed to appear in court, resulting in warrants being issued for their arrest.
