Joseph Greer has been jailed for a minimum of 22 years for murdering his partner, Samantha Lee, with a claw hammer while he was banned from approaching her.
The attack occurred at a property in Aberdeen between the 1st and 4th January this year, leaving Samatha with fatal head injuries.
The 54-year-old's body was discovered in the kitchen of the Bedford Road home, after a concerned acquaintance alerted police.
Court Hearing and Sentencing
Greer, who's 40, had previously admitted to the murder and to another charge of assaulting his victim last October in Aberdeen.
At the High Court in Dundee Greer to life in prison, with the order for a minimum of 22 years behind bars.
Lord Renucci stated, "Notwithstanding the fact that you have accepted responsibility for her murder, you claim to have no recollection of it.”
Forensic Evidence and Murder Details
He added that forensic evidence showed Greer struck Samatha repeatedly with a claw hammer, leaving her with injuries that resulted in her death.
At the time of the murder, Greer was prohibited from contacting her due to bail conditions from the previous assault.
Lord Renucci remarked, "Domestic abuse is a scourge on our society, and it is difficult to imagine a worse example than that exhibited by you towards Ms Lee."
Family and Official Reactions
Samatha's family expressed their grief, saying, "No verdict can ever bring her back or erase the pain, grief, and loss our family has experienced."
Laura Buchan from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said, "Joseph Greer carried out a brutal and sustained attack on Samantha Lee before failing to raise the alarm. This is a tragic case where domestic abuse escalated to murder."
