Aberdeen man admits murdering partner in brutal hammer attack
Killer confessed to the murder at his city flat
Joseph Greer, 40, has admitted to murdering his partner Samantha Lee in a violent hammer attack at his flat in Aberdeen.
Samantha Lee, a 54-year-old mother of three, was found dead on 4th January after a friend of Greer's paid him a visit and discovered her body in the kitchen.
Greer confessed that "Samantha is dead" when the friend arrived.
The attack, which occurred at Greer's Bedford Road bedsit, involved Samantha being repeatedly struck with a claw hammer.
Previous Violence Documented
The couple had been in a relationship since 2021, and Samantha had previously been subjected to violence from Greer, notably captured in mobile footage last October.
Greer had been arrested for an earlier attack in Aberdeen's George Street, where he assaulted Samantha in public view.
Despite being bailed with an order to stay away from Samantha and being fitted with an electronic tag, Greer carried out the murder.
Court Proceedings and Sentence
Today/yesterday at the High Court in Glasgow, Greer plead guilty to the murder charge, facing a life sentence.
He also admitted to the aggravated assault of Samantha during the October attack.
Greer, previously jailed for violent offences, was on multiple bail orders at the time of the murder.
Lord Renucci, the presiding judge, described the offences as "appalling" and "cowardly" and is set to sentence Greer on 7th August in Dundee.
Family Tribute
At the time of Samantha's death, her family paid tribute to her vibrant and humorous personality, stating: "She had a rare ability to light up any room and make people feel at ease, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and treasured memories that will never be forgotten."
