A Fatal Accident Inquiry into the death of Aberdeen man Jamie Forbes has concluded at the city's Sheriff Court.

Three days of evidence have been heard about the tragedy which happened in January 2024, when Jamie plunged from a 12th-floor window at Elphinstone Court.

He'd been brutally beaten by Lee Smith, who was jailed for eight years after admitting culpable homicide. Police officers searched the wrong floors when looking for the 37-year-old after the alarm was raised.

In a statement released via law firm Digby Brown, Jamie's sister Lyndsay-Anne says: “For 29 months we have campaigned for a Fatal Accident Inquiry into what happened when Jamie died.

“Now we are here and heard the evidence I feel like his soul is free.

“He was the kind one of my mum’s kids. He would have given you the shirt off his back and when it came to big brothers no one could have loved their siblings more than Jamie.

“My heart broke when a witness said they heard my brother crying out for help and shouting the number of the flat he was trapped in.

“There needs to be change so this never happens again. I want to see a law called Jamie’s Law which would ensure that when police are called when there is concern for a person they don’t leave the area until that person in found and made safe.”

Closing submissions will be given by Sheriff Principal Andrew Miller on August 7th.
