Fears of cans of soup bursting have led to customers being urged to throw them away in outdoor bins.

Baxters Chef Selections Cullen Skink is a smoked haddock chowder that has been recalled by the Scottish company, citing a manufacturing fault that may cause the soup to spoil.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) have said the cans may “swell and potentially rupture.”

“Unpleasant odour and flavour”

Baxters have specified the issue may affect 400g cans with the batch code L07XC and an April 2029 best before date.

If spoilt, the soup may have an “unpleasant odour and flavour”, the FSA said.

Food Standards Scotland have also issued their own warning with customers who bought the soup in England, Wales and Scotland being warned not to eat it, and to instead throw the whole can away without opening it.

“Carefully place the full can in a bag and dispose of it in an external bin,” the FSA told customers.

Those seeking a replacement are told to contact Baxters customer care team.
